Are You Listening?

Updated: Jul 24, 2020

Our world seems to be overrun with the noise of technology. It seems almost impossible to stop the flow of information from the time we get up in the morning until we lay down and close our restless eyes at night. We are often weary and cannot even rest because of so much data that has been floated through our minds in the last 8 to 12 hours. But as I looked at these verses today I was reminded that sometimes God’s voice cannot be heard among the clamor that often surrounds us. Sometimes it's just that still, small voice that is God speaking to us:

“Then he was told, Go, stand on the mountain at attention before GOD. GOD will pass by. A hurricane wind ripped through the mountains and shattered the rocks before GOD, but GOD wasn’t to be found in the wind; after the wind an earthquake, but GOD wasn’t in the earthquake; and after the earthquake fire, but GOD wasn’t in the fire; and after the fire a gentle and quiet whisper.”

“When Elijah heard the quiet voice, he muffled his face with his great cloak, went to the mouth of the cave, and stood there. A quiet voice asked, So Elijah, now tell me, what are you doing here?” 1 Kings 19:11-13 MSG

Have you listened quietly for the voice of God. Are you able to hear His voice and His specific directives for you? Take time to listen.
